Brief Profile:-
Dr. Upendra Kumar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the Institute of Engineering & Technology (IET), Lucknow, India. He is also Associate Dean of Student Welfare in IET Lucknow since 2017 onwards and also served as Associate Dean of Student Welfare and Associate Dean of Computer Application in AKTU Lucknow for around 04 years. He has earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science & Engineering from Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow in association with IIIT Allahabad in 2015, and his M.Tech. in Information Technology from the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Allahabad, graduating with First Honours. Dr. Kumar’s research interests encompass Human Cognition-inspired Models, Artificial Intelligence, Explainable AI, Biomedical Signal and Image Processing, Deep Learning, and Cyber Security. He has around four years’ industrial experience in renowned organization in TCS. He has more than 16 years teaching and research experience. He has spearheaded several high-impact, government-funded research projects, including a ₹2.01 crore MeitY-funded (Govt. of India) initiative on cryptography and information security, a ₹1.61 crore ICMR-funded project on AI-driven chronic pain management and a 13.08 lacs UP-CST funded project on Indian Sign Language Gesture Recognition. He has published 40+ international and national journal research articles and 20+ book chapters. He has edited 02 books in CRC press, Tayler & Francis and 03 text books in reputed national publishers. He has around 05 published utility patents and 05 granted utility/design patents. He has been awarded “Best Teachers Award, 2022” in the overall performance category, by AKTU, Lucknow, India. He is a member of World Research Fellow of London (WRFL) run by Universal World Research Innovation Centre, London, UK since July 2025. He is also member of academia for constitution of advisory board for providing incubation services at STPI- UP (society under Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India) incubation center, since 24/06/2021.

.2) Artificial Intelligence-Driven Chronic Pain Management with Mobile App Integration for Empowering Primary Healthcare Physicians, funded by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi, India, for 03 years,
in coloboration with SGPGI Lucknow, AIIMS New Delhi, AIIMS Mangalagiri, CAS AKTU etc. funding amount INR 1.61 Crore (Approx.)
3) Development of Robust Sign Language and Hand Gesture Recognition System Using Image Processing and Machine Learning for Communication and Education of Hearing and Speech Impaired (HSI) people (Project ID-4204), funded by Council of Science and Technology, U.P., funding amount INR 13.08 Lakhs.
